Our workshop was held successfully. 27 participants from Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, United Kingdom, France, Slovenia and Russia took part in it. The presentations and working group reports are linked to a version of the workshop programme:

Presentations

The organising committee of the workshop thanks all participants for the presentions and active discussions. We hope that the workshop gave new ideas and advanced our work in modelling of snow and ice interactions with atmosphere. Our thanks are due to the support by the Finnish Meteorological Institute Kuopio unit. We thank the hotel Savonia for hospitality and good food with local specialities!

A workshop on "Modelling of snow-ice-atmosphere interactions" will be arranged in Kuopio on March 24-26, 2010. The aim of the workshop is to share experience amongst researchers studying interactions between atmosphere, snow and ice in the framework of atmospheric and marine models of different spatial and temporal scales. Contributions on the following topics will be especially welcome:

Assimilation of snow and ice observations, validation of models against observations

Snow and ice in numerical weather prediction (NWP) and climate models

Dynamical and thermodynamical models of snow and sea ice

Chemistry, pollution, ecosystems of snow and ice related to atmosphere

Researchers and research students working with related topics are welcome to submit a short abstract for a presentation of 20-30 minutes. There will plenty of room for discussion. In addition to the participant's presentations, keynote presentations on each main topic will given.

The venue for the workshop will be in University of Eastern Finland. A block reservation for accomodation has been made in a nearby hotel Savonia.
